Kaizer Chiefs Football Club is known to devour any team that comes their way, thanks to the Kaizer Chiefs F.C. coaches, maybe it earned them the nick Amakhosi which translates to “Lords” in Zulu. The Phefeni Glamour Boys have won twelve leagues and has lifted over fifty club trophies. They boast as the team to hold the most trophies among other clubs in PSL.

Behind any successful team is a good coach, the Chiefs has made it a priority to employ a good manager. Here is a list of Kaizer Chiefs Football Club Coaches from 1 July 1985 until date.
1. Ted Dumitru
He was born on 2 September 1939 and the place of birth is in Bucharest, Romania. He was appointed coach of Kaizer Chiefs on July 1, 1985, and managed the club until June 30, 1989 (1460 days). He was a re-appointed coach on July 1, 2003, and left the team on June 30, 2005 spending 30 days in the team. The Romanian-born coach died on 26 May 2016 (76).
2. Philippe Troussier
His date of birth is on 21 March 1955 and his place of birth is in Paris, France. Philippe became the Kaizer Chief’s coach on July 1, 1993, and managed the team for a year leaving the team on June 30, 1994.
3. Pavle Dolezar
Pavle is the next coach who has made a credible contribution to the team. He was born on 1 May 1946 in Bačka Palanka, Serbia. The 74-year-old took on the role of the Amakhosi’s coach on 1 July 1997 and managed the team for 729 days. Pavle left the team on 30 June 1999.
4. Muhsin Ertugral
Another credible coach is Muhsin who was born on 15 September 1959 in Istanbul, Turkey. The 61-year-old joined as a coach on the Kaizer Chief on July 14, 1999, and managed the team until he left on June 30, 2003. He returned to the team in July 2007 and finally left on May 8, 2009.
5. Ernst Middendorp
Born on 28 October 1958 is Ernst, a German football coach. He was born in Freren, Germany. The 62-year-old took PSL by storm with his outstanding performance, he joined Chiefs on July 1, 2005, and left on March 5, 2007. He returned to the club on December 7, 2018, and managed the team until September 9, 2020.
6. Kosta Papic
After Middendorp left the team in 2007, Kosta took on the coaching job and managed the team for 89 days (March 7, 2007 – June 4, 2007). The 60-year-old was born on 17 June 1960 in Novi Sad, Serbia.
7. Vladimir Vermezovic
Seems the Serbians have made a great impact in Kaizer Chief Football Club. Vladimir is one of those that made notable changes in the SA game of football. He was born on 30 June 1963 and the place of birth is in Belgrad, the capital of Serbia. He became the team’s coach on May 18, 2009, and left on April 12, 2012, spending three years.
8. Ace Khuse
The first Mzansi coach on the list Ace Khuse born on 8 September 1968 and the place of birth is in Johannesburg, South Africa. He managed the team for 79 years (12 April 2012 – 30 June 2012).
9. Stuart Baxter
Stuart, born on 16 August 1953 in Wolverhampton, is the next coach to manage Kaizer Chief. The 67-year-old took on the job as coach 1 July 2012 and dropped the baton on 2 June 2015. The team was under his management for 1066 Days (3 years).
10. Steve Komphela
The second Mzansi-born coach is Steve, who was born on 1 July 1967 in Kroonstad, Free State, South Africa. He was the coach of Kaizer Chiefs for 1024 Days (3 years) managing the team from 3 July 2015 until 22 April 2018 managing 112 matches in total.
11. Patrick Mabedi
Patrick took over the baton from Steve on April 23, 2018, and dropped the baton on Jun 30, 2018 spending 68 days. The 47-year-old managed only 3 matches. His date of birth is on 5 November 1973 and the place of birth is in Blantyre, Malawi.
12. Giovanni Solinas
The same year Patrick left the team, Giovanni joined as the new coach. He was born on 11 April 1968 in Sassari, Italy. The 52-year-old coached Kaizer Chiefs for 147 Days (13 July 2018 – 7 December 2018). He retired as a football player on 1 July 1995 and his last team in Voghera.
13. Gavin Hunt
The current coach of Kaizer Chief was born on 11 July 1964 in Cape Town, South Africa. The 56-year-old became the new coach on 17 September 2020 and has managed to impress a lot of South African football lovers. Though his contract ends on 30 June 2023, he retired from playing football in July 1994.
